Wanted murder suspect breaks into family’s home; fatally shoots mom, grandma, & uncle

A wanted Florida suspect was taken into custody after he opened fire at four of his immediate relatives, killing three.

According to St. Petersburg police Chief Anthony Holloway, an injured woman who managed to escape the home where the shooting occurred reached a neighbor’s house to seek help.

A SWAT team made their way into the home after breaking down its front wall while the shooter, Cornelius “Cornbread” Whitfield, was still there.

Three people were found dead at the scene. They were identified as Whitfield’s 66-year-old mother, his great grandmother, 83, and his uncle, 45.

    When the tragedy unfolded, police were searching for the 31-year-old suspect in connection with a deadly shooting that claimed the life of Darren Lorenzo Barnes, 31, early this month.

    A $3,000 reward was offered by authorities for any information that could help track down Whitfield who was described as dangerous.

    The suspect who has previously served jail time on charges of drug possession and fleeing law enforcement is facing four murder counts and two attempted murder counts.
