Ontario authorities said that a hazmat situation at the Philips Oral Healthcare commercial building had sickened 29 people and sent 9 others to local hospitals after suffering severe breathing issues.
The hazardous materials incident occurred at around 8 a.m. Thursday at the plant in the 1700 block of South Baker Avenue.
The Ontario Fire Department sent dozens of firefighter-paramedics in response to the incident when reports of people complaining of chest pain emerged.
Almost 30 people were treated on scene and nine others hospitalized for breathing irritation that was labeled non-threatening.
The plant is believed to make oral healthcare products. The building was evacuated to an adjacent parking lot amid the chaos.
The cause of the medical emergency remains unspecified.
