Oregon man, 88, shoots wife dead with gun he owned since he was 12

An elderly Oregon man was found with serious injuries near his deceased wife in what he intended to be a murder-suicide, Jackson County Police said.

88-year-old James Edward Wheeler told detectives that he and his 87-year-old wife suffered health issued and that he thought they “would be better off dead than alive.”

    Five days following the incident, Wheeler was charged Friday with second-degree murder and was denied bond.

    He appeared in a wheelchair at his arraignment wearing an anti-suicide garment, according to reporters.
