More than a dozen Republicans have released a statement Saturday revealing that they plan to object President-elect Joe Biden’s Electoral College victory on Jan. 6.
Among the 12 pro-Trump senators are Ted Cruz, Rand Paul, John Kennedy, Marsha Blackburn, James Lankford, Steve Daines, Mike Braun, and Josh Hawley who had announced Thursday that he would contest Biden’s certification.
“I cannot vote to certify the Electoral College results on January 6 without raising the fact that some states, particularly Pennsylvania, failed to follow their own state election laws,” Sen. Hawley argued.
“At the very least, Congress should investigate allegations of voter fraud and adopt measures to secure the integrity of our elections. But Congress has so far failed to act.”
The 11 Republican Senators said in their statement that an Electoral Commission should be appointed immediately to “conduct an emergency 10-day audit of the election returns in disputed states.”
“Once completed, individual states would evaluate the Commission’s findings and could convene a special legislative session to certify a change in their vote, if needed.”
The statement continued: “Accordingly, we intend to vote on Jan. 6 to reject the electors from disputed states as not ‘regularly given’ and ‘lawfully certified unless and until that emergency 10-day audit is completed.”
