Authorities have arrested a former professional boxer who once fatally knocked out his opponent in the ring in connection with the last year’s death of his 25-year-old daughter.
52-year-old Kabary Salem now stands accused of killing his daughter Ola Salem whose body was found by a jogger in Bloomingdale Park, SI. Ola’s remains were covered in leaves in a heavily wooded area and her cause of death was ruled as strangulation.
After authorities identified Ola’s body in October 2019, Salem told detectives and local news outlets that his daughter, who was an advocate for Muslim women in New York City, confessed to him that she was being stalked.
“She always said somebody would follow her. I want to know what happened to her, what is the reason for that – but no one tells me – I am just waiting, she was a really good, beautiful girl,” Salem told reporters.
On Dec. 19, the New York City Police Department arrested Salem from Kuwait and indicted him on murder charges. He was booked to Rikers Island.
Salem represented Egypt in the 1992 and 1996 Olympics and was called “The Egyptian Magician.” He once punched an opponent, Randie Carver, to death during a bout after head-butting him several times. Carver died a couple of days later from head trauma.
