Secret Service shoots armed man near White House during overnight confrontation

An armed man was shot by Secret Service near the White House after an overnight confrontation Sunday, authorities said.

Earlier Saturday, police learned that a suicidal man was traveling from Indiana to Washington, D.C.

At midnight, Secret Service agents located the man’s vehicle parked near 17th and F Streets and spotted a man matching his description.

An armed confrontation between the agents and the suspect occurred a block west of the White House in the area of the Eisenhower Executive Office Building.

  • “As officers approached, the individual brandished a firearm and an armed confrontation ensued, during which shots were fired by our personnel,” the agency statement reads.

    “The suspect was rushed to an area hospital and his condition is unknown.”

    The shooting is under investigation by the Metropolitan Police Department.

    President Donald Trump was not in the White House at the time of the incident.
