A Baltimore pharmacy owner has pleaded guilty to hiring a hitman to get rid of a witness in the illegal drug distribution case he was facing in 2018.
52-year-old David Robinson paid an acquaintance $5,000 to kill a witness in the case days ahead of the sentencing and promised to give an additional sum after the operation.
The Franklin Family Pharmacy owner was told that the witness would be killed as the acquaintance “saw a chance to make some money” and pay his lingering bills.
But the hitman did not kill the witness and still asked Robinson to complete the $10,000 he promised after providing a fakes picture of the deceased witness.
“This investigation and subsequent arrest is a perfect example of how pharmaceutical cases that involve doctors or pharmacists have the potential to be just as violent as a street gang case,” Special Agent Todd Edwards said.
Robinson was being investigated over fraudulent prescriptions and illegal dispensing of painkillers and anti-anxiety medication.
He has been expected to serve 51 months behind bars but will now face an extra-sentence of up to 10 years for the murder-for-hire plot.
