Newborn dies of meth overdose when mom breastfed her just after consuming drugs

A 31-year-old Louisiana mother is behind bars facing second-degree murder charges after the death of her three-month-old daughter who died of a meth overdose on Nov.1.

Autumn Blansett admitted to consuming the drug before breast-feeding the baby which resulted in her death.

  • Autopsy results showed that the infant had a fatal level of the drug in her system when she passed away at her family home in the 5100 block of Eden Roc Drive in Marrero.

    Following autopsy results, the baby’s death was ruled a homicide on Dec. 11, and the mom was arrested on suspicion of murder.

    The death was not immediately classified as a homicide pending autopsy results since detectives had no idea what caused the infant to die when they pronounced her dead at the home.
