Chicago news, Illinois news.

A Chicago couple is being prosecuted in connection with a brutal torture and murder case against a schizophrenic man that occurred in June.

Santino Carter and Dominique Beck were charged with murder and neglect as a caregiver. A third suspect, Brian Gray, was also charged in the case for helping clean the crime scene.

43-year-old Frederick Johnson was living with the couple at their Englewood home for at least two years before the tragic events.

Carter, 38, and Beck, 29, asked him to leave the home after he defecated in the living room and bathroom and the trio entered in an altercation.

  • A witness told police that Carter punished Johnson severely, making him standing while touching his toes for hours and slamming him with a wooden stick and a chain whenever he tried to take a break.

The same source told detectives that Carter took Johnson to a room carrying a hammer before hearing the mentally ill man scream in pain.

The suspect then called Gray, 48, paid him $100, and asked him to clean up the room. Johnson’s body was later found in a garage.

Judge John F. Lyke described the crime as “evil on a whole other level” against an incompetent person who suffered a “violent and cruel death.”

Carter and Gray are being held without bail while Beck’s bond was set at $1 million. They are awaiting their next court appearance in December.
