Washington D.C. news, Washington news.

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo told reporters on Tuesday that a ‘smooth transition to a second Trump administration’ was in the works.

“There will be a smooth transition to a second Trump administration,” Pompeo said cheerfully. “We’re ready. The world is watching what’s taking place. We’re going to count all the votes, when the process is complete there’ll be electors selected. The constitution lays it out pretty clearly.”

To which Trump responded on Twitter: “That’s why Mike was number one in his class at West Point!”

Pompeo continued: “The world should have every confidence that transition necessary to make sure that the state department is functional today, successful today, and successful when the president who’s in office on January 20th a minute after noon will be successful.”

The top official said that he’s been getting calls from “around the world” about the election outcome and that the Trump administration will count “every legal vote” and ensure everything was done “right.”

  • “I am very confident that we will- we must – count every legal vote and anyone that wasn’t lawful aught not be counted,” Pompeo stated.

“Gotta get that right. When we get it right, we’ll get it right. We’re in good shape.”

On Monday, Pompeo seemed to ignore a reporter asking if he will cooperate in the transition with Biden.

Other Trump allies echoed Pompeo’s views. Vice President Mike Pence tweeted: “It ain’t over til’ it’s over.”

Wisconsin Senator Ron Johnson told reporters that he didn’t congratulate Biden yet, because “there’s nothing to congratulate him about.”
