On Monday, and after days of speculations, top Republican Senator Mitch McConnell issued a statement shared by several other leading Republicans to announce their support for President Trump’s legal moves.

“President Trump is 100 percent within his rights to look into allegations of irregularities and weigh his legal options,” McConnell said.

“Let’s not have any lectures about how the president should immediately, cheerfully accept preliminary election results from the same characters who just spent four years refusing to accept the validity of the last election.”

The majority leaders’ statement followed that of Senator Lindsey Graham who considered the election was not over and won’t be until legal challenges launched by the Trump campaign are decided.

Texas Republican Senator John Cornyn had a more diplomatic opinion: “There is a process that is available, and I don’t begrudge the president for availing himself of that process,” he said.

“But in the end, they’re going to have to come up with some facts and evidence. But that’s not my job—that’s his campaign’s job.”
