Germany, France, Canada, and UK congratulate Joe Biden’s victory & so did Obama, Clinton and…Mitt Romney

Following the news of his evident victory, President-elect Joe Biden has received congratulations from foreign leaders including Boris Johnson, Emanuel Macron, and German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau was first to congratulate Biden just after he sealed the presidency, saying that he looks forward to working together with him and Harris.

Germany hailed Biden’s win a “new chapter” for transatlantic relations: “We want to invest in our cooperation with the new president for a new start in transatlantic relations, a new deal,” Maas tweeted.

UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson has for his part has also expressed his congratulations to Biden and Kamala Harris, adding that “the US is the most important ally and I look forward to working closely together on our shared priorities from climate change to trade and security.”

The French President also congratulated Biden and invited him to work together to overcome today’s challenges.

    Hillary Clinton talked about a “repudiation of Trump and a new page for America” without forgetting to refer to Kamala Harris’ historical achievement being the first woman and person of color to become vice-President.

    Republican Mitt Romney also congratulated Biden and Harris on Twitter: “Ann and I extend our congratulations to President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris.”

    “We know both of them as people of goodwill and admirable character. We pray that God may bless them in the days and years ahead.”
