Birmingham news, Alabama news.

A Birmingham couple has been charged with aggravated child abuse after their two-month-old daughter stopped breathing and arrived at the hospital with 12 broken ribs and a fractured wrist.

Kylar Matthew, 22, and McKayla Leigh Allen, 19, were speechless upon their Sept. 3 arrest and had no explanation as to why the innocent baby was so badly abused.

According to the Etowah County Sheriff’s Office, the infant was not breathing when Human Resources rushed her to the Children’s of Alabama hospital.

Medics believe the infant was abused for at least three occasions and had serious injuries including broken ribs and wrist.

The parents were denied having any contact with their daughter or any other child under the age of 18.

Matthew and Allen denied their involvement in the abuse. They were booked into the Etowah County Community Corrections on a $50,000 bond.
