Tennessee authorities had failed to stop a suspect who went on a rampage Sunday that only ended with his suicide after killing two innocent people.
St. Louis resident, 29-year-old Dangelo Dorsey, fatally shot the driver of a vehicle on I-24 and injured another occupant. The victim was identified as 28-year-old Darcey Johnson.
The incident led authorities to halt the traffic in the area with the gunman running from vehicle to vehicle and threatening drivers and passengers while trying to carjack someone.
He at first approached a female driver and shot her hand before firing at a truck driver’s face. Dorsey then spotted a Ford Mustang driven by Jordan Stevens, 23, and his pregnant wife.
The suspect rear-ended the car and forcefully stepped in while commanding the terrorized couple at gunpoint to drive home.
“When they arrived, it appears Dorsey took two additional firearms from the residence, swapped vehicles to a blue Toyota Rav4, and forced the man and woman to accompany him,” police said.
“The situation escalated in the coming hours. At some point, and we’re still working to determine specifics, Dorsey shot and killed the male hostage and forced his body from the vehicle.”
Stevens’ reportedly begged for his pregnant wife and unborn baby’s lives and asked to be killed instead.
Shortly later, at around 3:45 p.m. Dorsey crashed the car with the pregnant woman in the back seat. Investigators believe he’d shot himself dead prior to the crash. Stevens’ wife has miraculously survived the deadly ordeal.
