Authorities in Oregon have arrested two suspects they accused of burglarizing evacuated homes in the area that was badly-hit by continuing wildfire.

Anthony Travis Bodda, 21, and Alexander Justin Jones, 36, were reported to police on Thursday after their suspicious van was spotted in the city of Detroit.

The suspects fled the scene and tried to elude police by driving through a ditch at high-speed but were ultimately arrested when their vehicle was disabled with spike strips.

“I am disappointed that while in a state of emergency these people would victimize members of our community,” Sheriff Joe Kast said. “The women and men of the Marion County Sheriff’s Office are committed to holding people accountable if they chose to victimize residents from our evacuated areas.”

Bodda and Jones face numerous charges including burglary, eluding an officer, reckless driving, and criminal mischief. Stolen items were found in the van.
