Rapid City news, South Dakota news.

A 25-year-old man was named a person of interest in the killing of his girlfriend on New Year’s Day that police initially investigated as a suicide.

According to the Rapid City Police Department, a thorough investigation led to the arrest of Dion Bordeaux in connection with the fatal shooting of 22-year-old Jeanette Jumping Eagle that he staged to seem like she committed suicide.

The shooting occurred at the Microtel Inn and Suites. The mother-of-three lost her life after a bullet hit her head: “It was originally staged to appear as a suicide but through forensic evidence we were able to prove otherwise,” officials said.

At this time, it remains unclear how the victim’s death was staged to seem like she turned the gun on herself but her sister stated that Bordeaux killed Jeanette Jumping amid jealousy after he saw several text messages the victim had sent to her children’s dad.

Bordeaux has previously spent a ten-year sentence for aggravated charges: “He seems like a jealous person. She was trying to leave him before, and he got really abusive with her,” she added.

The suspect who faces first-degree murder is expected to be transferred to Pennington County Jail. His first court appearance’s date was not yet determined.
