The son of a high-profile Florida attorney has taken his own life after gunning down his father and injuring the father’s longtime girlfriend on Wednesday morning at their Hollywood residence.
Robert Fenstersheib was pronounced dead at around 9:40 a.m. next to his elder son, Michael, who was the perpetrator of the tragic murder-suicide, police said. According to authorities Michael was struggling with addiction and mental illness for years.
“Michael lost that battle today,” police and family spokesman Scott Mager said. “He shot both Robert and his longtime girlfriend Hong Pen and killed himself using the weapon. Drug abuse and mental health issues are so underestimated in today’s life, and so I hope people will reach out and try to help those around them that they can.”
Fenstersheib and his 35-year-old son were dead when officers responded to the scene. Pen was hospitalized in critical condition.
The prominent attorney was according to his colleagues and friends “an unbelievable human being, an amazing person, and unbelievable father, and a great leader.”
