Smithfield news, North Carolina news.

Authorities in North Carolina are desperately looking for a 4-year-old boy who remains unaccounted for since his family’s car was swept away by violent floodwater last Monday.

On Wednesday afternoon, rescuers pulled over the body of the boy’s sister, Alexa Castro, 5, near the Neuse River. The children’s mom was also inside the car when it was dragged into a creek amid the flooding. She was saved and is currently hospitalized.

The woman called 911 and remained for 20 minutes on the phone as rescuers tried to locate her submerged car: “It’s up to my knees, it’s up to my knees,” Castro said terrorized. “Baby we’re not going to die. Oh my goodness. I don’t think I can get my kids out because I can’t see anything.”
