Austin news, Texas news.

It wasn’t hurricane Laura that claimed a homeless Texas woman’s life but gunfire that erupted among fellow evacuees on Thursday night.

Police rushed to the scene where Texans were sheltered amid the hurricane after reports of an armed violence incident emerged at around 12:30 a.m. Sources said that two groups of about 60 evacuees from Port Arthur and Beaumont got involved in a brawl that ended with a gunfight.

The homeless woman wasn’t taking part in the events, police said. She was fatally hit by a stray bullet and was transported to Dell Seton Medical Center where she passed away half-an-hour later.

The investigation continues into the shooting. No arrests have been made as of Friday morning.
