Columbia news, Maryland news.

Maryland authorities have identified a 30-year-old pregnant woman shot dead while inside her Columbia home as Rabiah Ahmad and said doctors are trying to save the life of her prematurely-delivered son.

Ahmad was 28-week pregnant when several shots were fired into her residence on Friday night. Investigators believe she wasn’t the intended target of the shooting but likely someone living at the residence she shared with unrelated people.

“This is a quiet neighborhood,” a neighbor said. “There are usually little kids playing in the street.”

Ahmad was Muslim and like the Muslim community around the world, she was celebrating Eid Al-Adha: “Our condolences and prayers go out to the family and friends of Ms. Ahmed and to our entire Howard County Muslim community who are shocked and saddened by the incident,” Executive Calvin Ball said.
