Coral Springs news, Florida news.

Authorities in Coral Springs believe the estranged husband of a nurse was waiting for her shift to end to kill her because she was planning to divorce him.

Merin Joy, 26, and her husband Philip Mathew, 34, were known to local authorities after Joy reported him posting threats on social media on July 19 but detectives didn’t pay much attention to Mathew’s posts.

On Monday night, the estranged husband waited outside the Broward Health facility where Joy worked an overnight shift. When she left her workplace early on Tuesday morning, he ambushed her, stabbed her several times and run over her like she was “a speed bump” as witnesses described. Joy was able to identify her killer before she passed away.

Mathew has been charged with first-degree murder. He and the victim had a 2-year-old daughter left in Joy’s mother custody.
