California Police announced the death of a gunman who refused to surrender following an abuse report and fired at three officers during an hours-long standoff.

The incident started on Thursday morning with a woman calling police asking for help after a man held her hostage, broke her ribs, and poured gasoline on her in an attempt to burn her alive.

The Contra Costa Police officers arrived and found out that the victim has successfully fled the scene. They began negotiations with the suspect before a SWAT team joined them at 12:40 p.m.

The gunman barricaded himself inside the home until 9 p.m. when he came out, shooting at the officers and striking three of them. Police returned fire killing the gunman.
