The search for Naya Rivera is underway but authorities said on Friday that she is presumed dead after vanishing Wednesday while boating at Lake Piru with her 4-year-old son.

At a Thursday news conference, Ventura County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Kevin Donoghue revealed that the body may not come back up “if it is entangled in some way.”

Donoghue added that the search for the “Glee” star is complicated by the bad visibility in lake waters: “Particularly in that area, there’s a lot of trees and plants and such that are under the water that can cause entanglements, makes it unsafe for the divers and it makes a more complicated search.”

Rivera’s son told investigators that he and his mom went swimming in the waters but that she never returned. He was found alone, asleep on the vessel.
