An Ankeny man is behind bars after he allegedly tried to use a violent dog to attack someone at a party before murdering the animal once it turned on him.
33-year-old Juan Carlos Moreno Martinez was charged with several counts including assault, animal neglect, trespassing, and probation violations over the June 6 dog attack that he perpetrated while targeting someone at a party.
Moreno tried to ignite a fight among attendees before deciding to retrieve one of his friends’ pit bull “knowing its past behavior when worked into frenzy,” police said.
Three people were attacked before the dog turned on the attacker, biting him in the leg and arm. It was put down by Moreno Martinez who stabbed it several times in the head and neck.
