Independence news, Missouri news.

Two Missouri siblings have passed away when their car caught flames during a joyride that turned deadly.

The older boy, 7, drove his grandparents’ car on Friday in the rural area of Jackson County with his 6-year-old brother in the passenger seat. The 2007 Buick LaCrosse went airborne off East Blue Mills Road and landed near a guardrail; hit a wire, rolled over before crashing into a tree and catching fire in a local creek, A Missouri Highway Patrol statement said.

Neither of the boys wore a seat belt during their last ride. Police are looking into how they stole the car in the first place: “It’s pretty unique, to say the least, and devastating,” Sgt. Andy Bell said adding that speed contributed to the cruelty of the crash.
