COVID-19’s mess: Masks and gloves are already polluting oceans

France news.

Since the coronavirus outbreak, personal protective equipment began polluting forests and environment; it even reached the oceans as a French diver proved when he collected countless surgical masks and gloves from the ocean floor, which is more than ten feet below waters.

“How about swimming with COVID-19 this summer…?” Laurent Lombard said on social media. “Knowing that more than 2 billion disposable masks have been ordered, soon there may be more masks than jellyfish in Mediterranean waters…!”

Scientists are asking people to cover their faces in public. Something they can do without the use of disposable PPE generally reserved for health workers. Gloves aren’t even efficient in the fight against the virus but good hand hygiene certainly is.
