Amityville news, Long Island news.

A Vietnam veteran has been nearly decapitated in front of 20 witnesses while participating in a Zoom meeting by his 32-year-old son who jumped from the apartment’s window and went to buy soda and Dr. Pepper to clean his bloody hands.

72-year-old Dwight Powers was fatally stabbed with multiple knives by his son Thomas Scully-Powers Thursday afternoon at their Amityville apartment. The victim was chatting with 20 people via Zoom when the gruesome attack unfolded.

The elderly was stabbed 15 times in the chest, back and neck, and nearly decapitated. Many bent knives were recovered from the scene: “This is a shocking and disturbing case,” Suffolk District Attorney Timothy Sini said. “By the defendant’s own admission, he brutally stabbed his father repeatedly until he was certain the victim was dead.”
