Joplin news, Missouri news.

A Missouri woman who froze her late husband’s corpse for months is now suing the county coroner for the return of the remains seized since last year.

67-year-old Barbara Watters claims that Jasper County Coroner Rob Chappel ignored her requests for bringing back her husband’s corpse. The charges against her, including abandoning a corpse, were dismissed.

In November 2019, police discovered Paul Barton’s body frozen inside the couple’s home. Though authorities believe he had been frozen for nearly a year, Watters claims he passed away two months prior to the finding.

Watters said that she and Barton were concerned over doctors wanting to harvest his brain due to a rare illness he suffered, documents revealed.
