A Pennsylvania high school senior has been told he had from three to five months of life amid his battle with Ewing’s sarcoma but rather than worry about his obscure future, he decided to marry his girlfriend.

Chase Smith and Sadie Mills, both 18, wed on April 29, a few days after Smith learned his fate. The wedding came after a long battle with cancer that lasted 6 years. The rare illness attacks bones and soft tissue and doctors confirmed he had tumors all over his body including his brain and lung.

The couple said that the wedding was set within four days after convincing their parents: “Overall, it was the best day of my life,” Mills said. “I’ve always wanted an outdoor wedding.”
