A Florida nurse has taken his own life by a drug overdose after struggles with his duties in the ICU where he worked without enough PPE and his friends avoiding him.

32-year-old William Coddington worked in the front lines amid the coronavirus pandemic at JFK Medical Center and dealt with many fatalities for weeks. The recovering addict told his father that he recently intubated a patient without face shielding and felt “things splash on his face.”

Coddington’s mom said that what added to her son’s despair was that his best pals avoiding him: “And his friends, nobody wanted to see him because he worked in a hospital, not even to sit 6 feet apart.” A family friend believed that what people can find as upsetting or bothersome has been devastating to him.
