Police announced that a body that washed up on Venice Beach early Wednesday was identified as former WWE star Shad Gaspard who vanished over the weekend as he swam with his ten-year-old son.
A pair walking on the beach alerted police at about 1:30 a.m. after spotting a lifeless body floating near Lifeguard Tower 26 on Venice Beach. Los Angeles Fire Department’s Brian Humphrey confirmed the body’s identity in a news release.
Gaspard went missing on Sunday as he swam with his son in an area of the beach located at about a half-mile from where his remains were found. The father and son were caught in a rip and when lifeguards rushed to their help, Gaspard asked them to save his son first. When they returned for him, he was nowhere to be found.
