Houston news, Texas news.

An 80-year-old grandmother had been fatally stabbed by a mentally ill criminal who had a long history of arrests days after being released from jail.

338-year-old Randy Roszell Lewis was shot dead by a responding officer on Saturday when he killed Rosalie Cook as she returned to her car after shopping. Lewis had been threatening shoppers at knifepoint to give him money since his release. He was arrested 67 times on several charges and later deemed mentally ill.

“Randy Lewis should never have been free. Now an innocent woman has been murdered. This is absolutely shameful,” Houston Police Officers’ Union stated in a tweet.

“The defendant had a history of mental illness and he should have been kept off the streets,” Houston District Attorney said.
