Denver news, Colorado news.

According to prosecutors, a Denver caretaker is facing criminal charges including theft from an at-risk person for stealing an elderly woman’s diamond ring as well as her credit card when the victim was battling the novel COVID-19 at The Carillon at Belleview Station retirement community.

29-year-old Elizabeth Daniels intentionally swiped Barbara Gust’s engagement ring worth $13,000 before bringing it to a pawn shop and made purchases with the 86-year-old victim’s card a few moments after her death, the Denver District Attorney’s Office confirmed.

In a statement, Gust’s relatives said: “We were unable to have any access to her for four weeks, and then we found out she had the virus, which is heartbreaking.”
