Stabbing spree in Knoxville truck stop leaves 3 people dead, 1 injured

Three women were killed and a customer is wounded after a man holding a knife went on a stabbing spree at a highway truck stop on Tuesday.

The incident occurred around 7 a.m. at a Pilot Travel Center off Interstate 40. A truck driver, later identified as 33-year-old Idris Abdus-Salaam, began attacking employees and customers at the scene. When responding officers asked him to drop the knife, he refused which prompted an officer to fatally opening fire at him.

The victims were identified as Joyce Whaley, 57; Patricia Denise Nibbie, 51; and Nettie R. Spencer, 41. They were employees at the truck stop. An unidentified customer was injured: “It is with heavy hearts that we extend our deepest sympathy to the families and loved ones of the victims,” the chief executive of the Pilot Company said.
