Pennsylvania man who lost job amid pandemic shoots girlfriend before taking own life

Local news outlets reported that a 38-year-old Pennsylvania man who has been upset over losing his job due to the COVID-19 pandemic shot his girlfriend several times before taking his own life last Monday as 5,800 confirmed cases have been recorded in the state by Wednesday.

According to Northampton County Coroner Zachary Lysek, Roderick Bliss opened fire at his girlfriend, 43, at least four times grazing her in the back before he turned his semi-automatic pistol on himself. The case is being investigated as a suicide. Bliss’s girlfriend who has not been identified remains in a critical but stable condition.

According to Police Chief Chris Meehan, “Bliss had become increasingly upset over the COVID-19 pandemic and the fact that he had recently lost his job.”
