Union County news, North Carolina news.

A North Carolina woman is facing criminal charges after putting her 3-hour-old baby inside a plastic grocery bag and hiding him under leaves next to a fence near her house on March 25.

Casey Marie Thomas, 24, has been charged with attempted murder and felony child abuse related to the incident. Her relatives transported her to a nearby hospital over fears she had a blood loss. Nurses and medical staff believed she had just delivered a baby which she initially denied.

Police responded to Thomas’s residence where she lived with her grandmother and searched the area. The infant’s faint cries helped to locate him alive with his umbilical cord still attached.

“I hope that baby has a wonderful life and has somebody that will love and take care of him the way he should,” a resident said.
