Man kills Knoxville couple who hid fiancée amid domestic violence incident

An Alcoa man has been arrested after he shot dead a Knoxville couple who tried to help his abused fiancée on Saturday night.

31-year-old Ronnie Edward Johnson was charged with first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder and aggravated domestic assault in connection with the fatal shooting of Boyd Michael Beets and his wife, Doris Campbell Beets, both 67 at their home.

According to police, Johnson was assaulting his fiancée while driving through a Knoxville neighborhood when the abused woman managed to escape and asked the couple to hide her in their property.

Johnson rammed his car into the home before opening fire at the occupants, killing the couple. He was apprehended at the scene.
