‘Old’ human bones found by children playing in dirt pile: Iowa authorities

The Polk County Sheriff’s Office and the Medical Examiner have responded to a north Des Moines property following a call reporting human remains found by children in a dirt mound.

The caller was the grandparent of the children who were reportedly playing in a dirt pile near the property at 4330 N. Baseline Street where they made the gruesome discovery of the bones. At 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, authorities were at the scene investigating the human remains that appear to be old. No further details were made available as the investigation continues.

The Polk County Sheriff’s Office said that the remains have been at the scene for a while. The victim’s identification is currently underway.
