A California judge has sentenced a caregiver convicted of mistreating her clients to 13 years behind bars, news outlets said Friday.

53-year-old Shirley Montano has pleaded guilty last January to false imprisonment of an elder, perjury by false information, and voluntary manslaughter in a plea deal that had prosecutors drop charges of first-degree murder, kidnapping and causing harm or death to an elderly or disabled person charges.

Montano is suspected of starving Robert Chagas, 74, who dies in 2016 of pneumonia and was underweight. She was also taking care of Josefina Kellogg, 60, whom she cut off the world and held captive as she collected her Social Security checks.

Montano will also compensate Chagas’ relatives for his funeral costs.
