A former NFL player has been ruled not guilty of the murder of his mother in 2017 by reason of insanity, according to news outlets.
Judge Lauren Weis Bernstein found that De’von Hall suffered mental health issues at the time of the murder of his 48-year-old Alecia Benson who was beaten to death in her home in April 2017.
The victim was trying to help Hall who suffered from mental illness and homelessness when he aggressively attacked her: “He hit her. He stomped her out,” a witness described the incident. “They got in tussling match and next thing you know she was on the ground and he was stomping her out.”
Hall, who is a 6-foot-3 athlete, was a defensive back who played with Minnesota Vikings, Indianapolis Colts and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
