California authorities are investigating the suspicious death of a man they found hanging from a tree in a wooded area near a Northern California highway.
An anonymous person called 911 to report a dead man hanging from a tree in the area of eastbound Interstate 80 between Citrus Heights and Roseville, the California Highway Patrol has announced Monday.
Authorities added that responding officers discovered "a deceased male in the trees, up the embankment, approximately 30 feet from the traffic lane."
"The male subject was, who has not been identified at this time, had a rope tied around his neck and was hanging from a tree branch," the news release said.
Sacramento County Coroner's Office is working to identify the victim.
