Florida authorities are investigating a fatal shooting that took the life of a young FIU graduate who was struck in the head by a stray bullet as she drove on a Florida highway.
22-year-old Melissa Gonzalez was traveling in her vehicle on Interstate 95 with her boyfriend in the passenger seat when she was fatally shot by a stray bullet. The passenger managed to take control of the vehicle and called the police. Gonzalez was pronounced dead at the scene.
The boyfriend later told investigators that he believed the bullet was shot from a dark-colored car.
"She graduated from Florida International University last year," Det. Chris Thomas said. "She aspired to be a lawyer so she was going to take her LSATs in the next couple of weeks. Unfortunately, her life was taken."
