Long Beach news, California news.

A California man has been arrested and is facing murder charges after he allegedly assaulted an elderly woman before striking her to death by his Bird motorized scooter.

The suspect, who has not been identified, was arrested within hours of the slaying after an emergency call reported a woman sustaining serious wounds and "significant" injuries on her Torso. She was later identified as Rosa Elena Hernandez, a 63-year-old Long Beach resident. Investigators said that she didn't know her attacker before the incident and that it was an unprovoked attack.

The suspect was charged with murder and his bond was set at $2,000,000.

Bird said on a statement: "Our hearts and thoughts go out to the victim and her family. We will work with local law enforcement to help with the investigation."
