Explosion and tree fire outside Las Vegas casino after fireworks thrown from moving vehicle

An explosion that rocked the Las Vegas Strip early Saturday morning was likely caused by fireworks thrown from a moving vehicle, police said.

Terrified witnesses described a loud bang that sounded “like a bomb” at around 1 a.m.

Fire then caught several palm trees outside the Aria Resort and Casino. A white SUV was spotted driving erratically near the scene.

Several videos of the incident circulated on social media.

    “Huge boom heard on Las Vegas Strip,” another added.

    “We are investigating a small fire in the 3700 block of South Las Vegas Boulevard,” the Las Vegas Police Department said.

    “The fire was contained to a small area and was extinguished quickly. It was learned that an occupant in a vehicle threw fireworks, causing a tree to catch fire.”
