An Idaho teen was crushed to death by a falling boulder while camping with a friend on June 7, authorities said.

18-year-old Sheldon Medford was pronounced dead at the scene after a boulder fell on him in the Ahsahka area just 9:30 p.m.

When first responders arrived at the campsite, they found Medford pinned underneath the large boulder and beyond help.

“Sheldon was so much more than just a son and brother; he was a best friend, a partner in crime, an avid outdoorsman, a free spirit, and a true source of joy and silliness.”
