Foster mom charged in death of 7-month-old in hot minivan

A North Carolina woman is facing charges in connection with the death of a 7-month-old girl in a hot minivan.

Hamlet officers responded to a home on Charlotte Street over reports of an unresponsive baby at around 6 p.m. Monday.

  • Investigators determined that the girl died from excessive heat, but couldn’t specify how long the victim was inside the minivan.

    Djuna Bostick was charged with involuntary manslaughter and negligent child abuse. She is being held at the Richmond County Jail on a $500,000 bond.

    The incident marks the “6th Pediatric Vehicular Heatstroke (PVH) death nationwide in 2025, and the first in NC,” San Jose State University Professor of Meteorology Jan Null said.
