A Florida teen was charged with homicide in connection with a fatal Valentine’s Day crash that killed an elderly married couple.
Alberto Oswaldo Yanez Quintana, 17, was reportedly driving his new 2019 Dodge Charger at almost double the speed limit when he crashed into a Ford Fusion turning left at a stop sign.
The impact split the Ford in half, killing Patricia Fajardro De Cardona and her 84-year-old husband, Hugo Cardona Valencia.
Police said Quintana was showing off the speed of his new car to his passengers, taking “heavy turns” and “rapidly accelerating” on the road.
“[Quintana] weaved around other (slower) vehicles on the roadway while continuing to accelerate to unsafe/unreasonable speeds,”
“A time-distance calculation was conducted, and the results determined that if the Dodge Charger was traveling at the speed limit of 45 mph, the Ford Fusion would have had an additional 2.61 seconds to cross the intersection, and the crash would not have occurred,” the affidavit said.
