San Francisco news, California news.

A man died Thursday after he entered the waters of San Francisco’s Ocean Beach trying to rescue a dog.

The unidentified victim was fully clothed when he rushed to the dog’s rescue, entering the surf line at Ocean Beach.

The San Francisco Fire Department said that shortly later, the man collapsed for an “unknown reason,” and was pulled out of the water by two women who initiated CPR and called 911.

The Golden Gate National Recreation Area Ocean's rescuers arrived within two minutes before being joined by SFFD personnel and paramedics.

The man was taken to a hospital in “critical condition” and later died, the SFFD said.

“We are saddened to report that this adult male succumbed to his injuries. The dog this man rescued was able to exit the water independently and is OK. This is an unfortunate reminder not to enter the water for humans or pets, but rather to call 911.”
