'Significant', multi-car crash kills 4 in Connecticut

Three family members were among four people killed in a three-car crash in Newington, Connecticut, early Saturday, officials said.

The crash happened just after 9 a.m. at Willard and Greenlawn avenues, police said.

Authorities identified three of the deceased as a high school senior, her mother, and her aunt. They died at the scene despite lifesaving efforts.

“It is with a very heavy heart that we announced the passing of Newington High School senior Gabriela Difo,” Newington Public Schools Superintendent Maureen Brummett said.

    A fifth victim suffered minor injuries. The cause of the collision remains unknown.

    “It is a pretty significant crash,” said Lt. Ryan Deane. “Something we don’t see very often, which we are grateful for.”

    “[It is] also an example of what may happen if we are not obeying the laws of the road.”
