Son arrested after elderly mother found dismembered; remains stuffed in more than a dozen trash bags

A Connecticut man was arrested for attempted arson as he stands accused of killing and dismembering his elderly mother at his West Haven home earlier his year.

27-year-old Theodore Lloyd’s older brother informed police on March 25 that his 70-year-old mother, Tina Lloyd, went missing for several weeks.

Officers responded to the woman’s rented home on Nashawina Avenue and made a gruesome discovery of her mutilated body stuffed in more than a dozen garbage bags that were hidden under a closet.

  • While the remains were “in such a state of decomposition” that hindered the immediate identification, DNA tests later confirmed the remains belonged to Tina Lloyd.

    Police also found an electric chainsaw and “several cutting utensils” at the home concealed in nearly 30 garbage bags. About 15 of those contained human remains.

    “There was also evidence that there was an attempted arson at the house,” Police Chief Joseph Perno said.

    Theodore Lloyd was arrested as a suspect in the arson attempt on Monday. He may face additional charges related to his mother’s death as the investigation proceeds.
